Planter boxes are basically large containers for growing plants. When designing or constructing a planter box a number of considerations including planter box liners need to be taken into account including:
- planter box drainage
drainage is important in planter boxes, proper drainage will direct excess water away from the area surrounding the planter box to prevent pooling of water and staining of surrounding areas
- planter box liners
planter box liners need to be made from a proper long lasting butyl rubber membrane, ordinary plastic will deteriorate quickly. planter box liners are needed to preserve the planter box itself as well as prevent water seepage, planter boxes need to properly drained as well
- planter box weight
if you are installing a planter box onto an existing deck or structure consider the weight, not only of the planter box itself but the soil and plants as well
